CVBS stands for "Composite Video Baseband Signal", and it refers to the standard analog video output format used in many older surveillance cameras and other video equipment. In the context of surveillance cameras, CVBS output refers to the traditional analog video signal that carries video and sometimes audio information over a single cable.

The CVBS signal combines all video components - brightness (luminance) and color (chrominance) - into a single signal. This signal is then transmitted over a coaxial cable or RCA cable to a display device, such as a TV or monitor, which can interpret and display the video.

CVBS is considered a lower-quality video signal compared to digital video formats like HD-SDI, AHD, HDMI or IP streaming. It has limitations in terms of resolution, color accuracy, and noise tolerance.
